General Info on Behlen Observatory

Behlen Observatory is a research facility operated by the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Department of Physics and Astronomy. It is located in Mead, Nebraska approximately 38 miles northeast of Lincoln. It houses a 30-inch Cassegrain Reflector which is primarily used for variable star research.

Several public night are held each year for when the 30-inch telescope is avialable for public viewing. The exact dates of these nights will be advertised on these pages well in advance. Typically slide show talks, physics demonstrations, and the opportunity to look through smaller telescopes is offered as well. School groups may also arrange special tours schedules permitting.
