Mimi Yu

James-Webb and the Eagle Nebula

Project Description:

This project was inspired by a public presentation by Yoni Brande of the University of Kansas, introducing the upcoming infrared space telescope to be deployed in the coming December, with the intentions of communicating the importance of telescopes in space towards a younger, elementary audience. Within a children's book, handmade watercolor illustrations are used to visually depict a personified version of the James-Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble Space Telescope as they talk about how they were created and why. As younger students go along this journey, this project's intent is that the humanization of these instruments will allow a more endearing attachment to the potentials of space observation.
